Auxiliary Home, 1900
In November 1900, an Auxiliary Home was opened a few doors away at what was then 59 Ardwick Green. It provided supervised hostel-like accommodation as well as help and support for older boys who were making the transition from the Industrial School to independent life and who were working for employers in the area. Initially housing 20 boys, its certified accommodation was increased to 35 places in March, 1901.
The Home was located in premises on the block between Green Street and Parkside Street (see map) and was set back from the road. The photograph was taken in 1956, by which time the street number, use and appearance of the premises had changed.
Example of a Dietary Table, about 1901
The information, right, was compiled for the Stockport Industrial School for Boys. It is not unreasonable to assume that a similar dietary table might have been followed at Ardwick.
