Example of a Leaver’s reference and testimonial, July 1948

This pupil’s surviving report from over seventy years ago was somewhat faded and in parts very difficult to read. For that reason, it has been retyped and laid out similar to the original and is now clear and easy to read although some of its “historic feel” has been sacrificed. The original document was handwritten by Mr Wilfrid Holmes, the headmaster. In 1947-48 there were three fourth-year forms, with most pupils leaving at the end of the summer term. Twenty-five pupils returned to study for a further year in order to prepare for the JMB School Certificate, the exams for which were taken in June 1949.
