Ordnance Survey Map
This pre-slum clearance map of Ardwick shows the position of the school, marked “R.C. School”, in relation to the heavily urbanised and industrialised area. There were hundreds of terraced houses, together with shops and small businesses. In time many of the properties bordering the school would be demolished, with the space thereby created being absorbed into the school’s extension. The Corporation Yard, for instance, would become part of the school playground. Although published in 1932, this map probably shows how the area looked in the 1920s when it was surveyed. It also includes many of the places referred to in this document.
