Staff football team at Hough End Playing Fields, 1968

The match, against the school’s 1st XI, was played on the 12th March 1968, the Feast of St Gregory. 

The players are pictured in front of the changing rooms. Hough End was, at that time and for many years afterwards, used by the school for games sessions and for Saturday soccer matches against other schools.

Mr Doherty, an old boy, taught mathematics and was a former international rugby union player who had played for Sale and Ireland (England?). Mr Baxter, head of mathematics, was another old boy of the school and had represented a Catholic Boys’ team in a soccer match at Parkhead, home to Glasgow Celtic.
