Part of Speech Day programme, 1970
Head Boy
Among those appointed to the position of Head Boy were:
1965 Hugh Delargy
1966 George Sependa
1967 Anthony Schofield
1968 Peter McBride
1969 Kevin Kay
1970 Michael Doherty
The honour of being selected as Head Boy was accompanied by the task of delivering a vote of thanks towards the end of the annual Speech Day ceremony at the Free Trade Hall. Other senior pupils who performed this task – but were not necessarily regarded as the head boys – included David Ramwell (1960), B. Keyworth and B. Ferguson (1961), and Terence Lappin (1964). After 1970 the school was never again to stage a Speech Day.
PLEASE NOTE
After 1970 there were:
No more Speech Days.
No more Speech Day programmes.
No School Log book information owing to missing pages.
No HMI inspections or reports.
No more lists of fifth-year pupils.
No more sports days.
No house system.
No official class photographs.
No official or professional photographs of successful sports teams with trophies.
The omission of Log Book details has made it somewhat more difficult to pinpoint the accurate timing of certain events and the day-to-day life of the school during the period 1970 to 1977. In spite of this, every effort has been made to cover the main events of these years.
