Leonard Terrace, beyond the north wing of the Industrial School, 1914
The building at the far end of Leonard Terrace (see map) is part of the north wing of the Industrial School, later St Gregory’s. Directly below the window is an archway which was originally built for horse and cart access into the schoolyard. This was the only access for vehicles into the schoolyard. This view is looking towards Ardwick Green Park. The tall chimney on the west wing of the Industrial School can be seen to the right.

The Industrial School, with its tall chimney, can be seen in the background. The workshops and outbuildings of the workshop yard, off Green Street (see map), abutted onto the west wing of the school, that is, the left side when viewed from the Ardwick Green North end of the school.

This view is looking towards Ardwick Green Park with the Industrial School to the left, where its high chimney can be seen. The workshops, sheds and outbuildings abutted onto the west wing of the school.
This, and the two previous photographs, gives a grim view of the area in 1914 – a view that would be familiar to many Gregorians in the years from 1923.
